Statement on the April 14th Frazier Glenn Cross Shooting Spree

April 15th, 2014 by

Last night a cowardly individual shot at two Jewish community centers in the Kansas City area while shouting “Heil Hitler”. This murderous spree in Overland Park, Kansas last night by alleged Odinist Frazier Glenn Cross(1) is the antithesis of everything we, the members of Heathens United Against Racism, stand for. In Heathen practice such a despicable act is shameful beyond what words could hope to express. Striking down three innocent people based purely on hateful, unjustified, prejudicial fears like those Cross clearly expressed in his horrific assault is as far from virtuous Heathen conduct as a person could possibly get.

We wish to make it clear that Cross, and any others, who invoke the names of our Gods, our traditions, or our symbols as justification for their bloody rampages are the lowest of the low in our eyes. We stand, as a community, against all who would try to co-opt and pervert our practices just as the Nazis once did to support racist, fascist, or otherwise bigoted agendas. Such people are unquestionably unwelcome in our community and any who give them aid, shelter, or otherwise enable their bigotry are equally unwelcome in our hearths, rites, and events.
We extend our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the victims of this terrible crime and the community this honorless, cowardly individual sought to terrorize. We stand with you in this time of terrible tragedy and will do whatever we can to help heal the wounds inflicted yesterday by one hateful man. We hope that going forward we can build a respectful, genuine dialog between our communities and work together against all who would inflict their hatred on others.
We call on all Heathens and Pagans to join us in standing for a Heathenry that is all-inclusive, genuinely tolerant, unquestionably opposed to bigotry, and rejects all who would co-opt our spiritual practice to advance their narrow-minded, dead-end, hateful agendas along with those who enable their continued presence. We ask all to join us in ejecting anyone who stand for a racialist corruption of Heathen practice from all parts of our community. We also ask everyone to give generously for a special fund for the families of the victims which can be found here:
And to raise a horn in honor of the fallen.
In Solidarity and Fellowship,
Heathens United Against Racism
1) As per research by Jason Thomas Pitzl-Waters at the Wild Hunt the most recent mention by Cross or any associated of him being an active Odinist dates back to the late 90s and more recent accounts suggest he didn’t identify with any form of spirituality.
